Jack started in the oilfield in 1966 from “the ground up” while attending high school as a senior and his early years in college. He worked evenings and weekends cleaning and repairing oilfield tools and equipment for TIW. After working for Bay Drilling Company for a year as a “roughneck” to learn rigs and their operation, Jack quickly trained as a field representative for TIW (Texas Iron Works) as a service tool technician. TIW installed packers, liner hangers, fishing, gravel pack and other drilling and production related services.
After 5 years of field work in drilling, completions and workover, he went to work for Patterson Services as a pilot/salesman representing Patterson Rental Tools, International Hammer Services Company (casing company) and Patterson Adjustable Choke. After 10 years of flying float planes and providing sales and technical expertise to the field personnel, he was promoted to regional operations manager of all services and remained there for another 10 years.
Jack left Patterson Services in 1996 and went to work in the directional drilling business for Prime Directional Systems as their sales manager. By late 1999, the oilfield realized another slump, he went to work with his now business partner, Mike Valls (managing director of Prime Directional Systems and a 35-year directional driller). Mike trained Jack as a directional driller and Jack stayed in the directional drilling business for 18 years. Those 18 years on drilling rigs exposed him to every aspect of drilling operations, procedures, tools and safety.
At the end of 2013, Jack went to school and received his well control certification and worked briefly as a drilling consultant in West Texas. Jack has worked in every aspect of the drilling, completions and workover side of the oilfield for 50 years.
Jack began doing Expert Witness work in 2003 with Michael Valls although not as formally as the company we have today, Oil Expert Witness, LLC.
